You know you are intrigued when the Friday afternoon client meeting is still on your mind come Monday morning.

As designers, we live for the future.

Inspiration is taken from the past, but our minds continue to think of what can be.

In this AI-age, humanity is bracing for the new reality. Well, it is time to introduce you to Prosper Robotics.

A London-based startup founded by former OpenAI employee Shariq Hashme, science fiction meets reality as Prosper build a household robot that sits as the new best friend you never knew you needed – the one that cleans, loads and empties the dishwasher as well as preparing simple meals like salads.

… and here is the crazy thing, they think it will be market ready inside the next eight months. (Q1 2024)

A current team of 8, financed with a combination of Angel funding and multi-million-pound investment from founder Shariq, the next stage of development is to strategically move the industrial design function in-house through this first industrial design hire.

Your impact will be unquestionable. Currently in R&D mode, Prosper have an initial working prototype, and they are developing a new design intended for mass manufacture.

Your role will be to take complete ownership of industrial design. Prototype, test, build, fail, ideate, create, research, guide, collaborate and ship. We want someone with that emotional attachment and connection to this startup & mission – the startup “willingness to pack the product in the boxes” mentality. Ego to be left at the door.

In return you will not just be well compensated, but you have a rare opportunity to really sink your teeth into what the future could look like.

  • A startup, collaborative mentality.

  • An excellent portfolio demonstrating your visual flair, meticulous attention to detail and ability to communicate innovative designs in a clear and attractive way.

  • Prosper are hitting new ground, so prior experience in this space is not an option. Understanding of design for mass manufacturing will be looked at favourably.

  • Mastery of graphical presentation tools (e.g. hand sketching, Creative Cloud, 3D rendering)

  • Strong ability to use CAD tools to design attractive, functional and manufacturable designs (e.g., SolidWorks)

  • Excellent verbal and written storytelling/ idea communication skills

This is a business that endorses high speed, high trust, truth seeking, driven and thoughtfulness as their core values.

The role will help bring out your nonlinear thinking, attention to detail, human centred view of technology, love for beauty and optimism for technology’s potential in improving our lives.

Salary

The salary for the Industrial Designer position is varied depending on experience, with an initial range of £50,000 - £55,000.

There is a real appetite to secure the best talent, so please only use the above figure as a guide.

Prosper are also keen to engage with those earlier in their design careers, as long as there is strong alignment to those core values.

Remote Working

Through the nature of this position, you do need to be accessible to Prosper’s offices in London and it is unlikely you will be able to work remotely.

Interview Process

This recruitment process will begin with an initial screening call with Brad Harper, Founder of Design Truth.

You will then either virtually meet with Shariq, or visit Prosper’s London offices.

There is potentially a design task at the back end of this recruitment process, or Prosper will be looking for you to complete a paid weekly trial with them.
