Industrial Designer: Joseph Joseph

Applications to hello@designtruth.co.uk

When you wait in the lobby at Joseph Joseph, you instantly see how they cherish design.

Red Dot yearbooks on the coffee table, a dedicated space for the products that made it into the wild, and a warmth that the invention is only just getting started.

“Sorry if I start bleeding, I just cut myself on a cheese grater” says the Head of R&D – still hands-on: inventing, making, knowing there is a problem that needs solving after our meeting and that infectious love for the craft is something that sweeps across the studio.

It is an incredible creative space – still to this day one of the best we have seen. You will not get bored here … or work super late into the evening either.

There is a maturity, a professionalism, experience … but has managed to stay clear of the ‘this is the way we have always done it’ mentality.

It all started with a chopping board back in 2003. Twin brothers – Antony & Richard Joseph – are designers both by heart and qualification. The combination of stylish form and useful function for the everyday has propelled the brand in launching over 1000 products in over 100 countries around the world.

Design awards have naturally followed, with the inventive thinking a pillar for the commercial success.

The business is not standing still. It is investing in new product development and is tremendously excited by market opportunity.

There are several design positions available across the business, as well as continued investment in design engineering. New hires have been made within design engineering which gives great indication on the future direction.

One area of priority is for an Industrial Designer, where you will be tasked with finding opportunities that lead to a generation of disruptive big ideas.

Your 4+ years experience in industry is the perfect backdrop for you to succeed here.

I can only stress the importance of inventive thinking in harmony with this ability you have in managing projects on time … and on budget.

Your career to date will have shaped your understanding of design intent, getting product to market. Working with the factories ideally in the Far East which has led to an excellent knowledge of manufacturing techniques & processes.

To join a business where design is valued & sits at the very top is incredibly rare. A team that understands the challenges, the process, the constraints … and even with your years of experience, you will still learn at Joseph Joseph.

If you want to know more, here are a few things to keep in mind on your application:

  • Are you an inventive thinker?

  • Are you comfortable being involved with all aspects of the process… with an entrepreneurial approach?

  • Do you have product out there in the wild? On shelves & in stores?

  • Can you manage projects?

Salary

Salary expectations are always dependent on the capabilities of the individual but are in line with the top end of the Design Truth salary guide. This is a key hire and with that a range is not necessary for this position.

Please note that there is capacity for a more senior hire.

Remote Working

The world of work is changing, but naturally design is collaborative. You are not tied to an office five days a week, but geographically you do need to be accessible to the London Bridge office and you will spend a great deal of time there. Joseph Joseph are currently trialling a 3 day in the office, 2 from home split.
